Mixed Landscape Tutorial

Original photos. From here I decided to use the beach as my background and use the photo of the mountains to come into the picture.

Using the rectangular marquee tool I selected the photo of the mountains and copied and pasted it onto the photo of the beach.

Using ctrl+t I am able to use the transform tool to scale my picture to my liking. Use shift+alt while transforming so the photo doesn’t become distorted.

Using the opacity tool just above layer 1 I lower the opacity of the photo of the mountains to help me edit the photo.

Now, I click on the lock on the background so that I can erase some of the beach background and help the mountains blend in.

On layer 1 I erase the sky from layer 1 around the mountain so that the sky from layer 0 takes up the whole sky.

From here I begin to erase the mountain so that I can reattach it at a better angle.

I use the quick selection tool on the original photo of the mountains so that I can copy and paste the mountain individually.

Again I press crtl+t to use the transform tool to scale and turn my mountain so that I can put it on the edge of the mountainside.

Now that my mountain is in position I can use the clone stamp tool to add some finishing touches to help the mountainside blend in with the beach. Use alt to select the place you wish to clone and then apply the brush to the area.

Finished product.

Issue Poster Question

  • What tools do you use to create art?  How do these tools help you in creation of these pieces?
I use many tools in photoshop including the warp tool and the clone stamp tool but mostly it depends on what the project is. The tools help me visualize the art I want to create and allow me to follow through with it.

Barbie Project

I used the annoying orange character and kanye west to complete the Barbie Project. I picked them because I thought it would be an interesting combination.

Objects make a whole

I made a duck out of different fruits and vegetables. It was difficult to find the fruit and vegetables that fit into the ducks shape so I had to improvise quite a bit.

Altered Portrait

For my altered portrait I made myself a flower. It was interesting to use the photoshop tools to make my face the same color as the flower.

Translucent

I was inspired by our first project and wanted to do something that was sort of creepy in the spirit of Halloween. Using the blur tool and the opacity I was able to make myself translucent and I think it turned out well.

Edible Architecture

I just picked the park environment because watermelons belong in parks and then added a design that I thought would blend in well and fit in with a watermelon. I changed the blur and used the clone stamp tool mostly to blend the different things into the environment.

Stop Motion Animation

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHUtaqi4wzI

Our stop motion animation was a very fun project but it was time consuming and required a lot of tedious work. In the end I think it came out well and was worth the effort put in once you view the final product.

Cinemagraph

I just did a pencil rolling across my Illustration friday drawing and did my best to make it into a cinemagraph. It was difficult to follow the instructions because it was different than what we normally do.

Then for this one I just did myself jumping off the bench. It was slightly easier to edit the person than the object but it was still difficult.

Tongue Project and Newimals

I decided to make a lizard shaped tongue on the bear and then add a pandas face to a dog. For the combined picture I put my pandog with a picture of a cat.

Bottle label

I think the label came out well and actually was the perfect size for the bottle. I decided to do an Angry Birds themed one and it was tough to make the face but I think it went well. Then, for the rest I just added typical things you would see on a drink label.

Apex Logo Contest

I was inspired by the student section at Apex and used the design tips on Mrs.Sudkamps website to help me design the shapes used. I put it on the sign by photoshopping out the current logo and replacing it with my new one.

Stop Motion Artist

Alexander Dubosc
I picked him because I was intrigued by the colors he used and how he added unique surprises that kept a relatively basic process of baking a cake interesting. He mainly focuses on food art and has a website dedicated to this at http://alexandre-dubosc.com/. He is from France and was studying directing at until he received a master in European art and worked in many companies in France including Mac Guff Ligne. In 2002, he directed The Lover which proved to be a turning point in his career. He brings inanimate objects that belong in the fridge to life and it becomes very entertaining.

Here is a link to his video Food about You, where he makes a cake.

Brush Project

I just randomly thought of the idea of me meditating and then I thought about cool designs to put in the background to make it look like I was surrounded by water and fire. I came across some problems with the editing of getting my outline but I eventually got it right. If I did this again I might go for a different idea because it was tricky getting the outline of myself. I used the swirl brush, the sun, and the fire and water to go behind.

Angry Pancake

The most difficult part of this project was using the different tools effectively to make the angry pancake look good. I overcame these problems by watching the video and experimenting with the Photoshop tools. If I redid this project I would try to use more tools to make the layers combine better.
